A man has been charged with threatening a Daily Echo journalist outside court and is due to appear before magistrates.
Police launched an investigation after a reporter attended Southampton Crown Court to cover a hearing for this newspaper but was then threatened by a man outside the building in London Road.
Echo reporters cover the city's crown and magistrates' court each week, reporting on cases that would otherwise go unnoticed.
A Hampshire police spokesman said: "We can confirm that we received a report shortly before 4.50pm on Wednesday, September 2 that a 25-year-old man had been threatened outside of Southampton Crown Court while working as a journalist earlier in the day.
"An investigation to establish the circumstances was launched.
"As part of our enquiries Hamza Ibrahim Abdi, 27, of Green Lane in Southampton was subsequently arrested and charged with using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause fear of or to provoke unlawful violence.
"He has been bailed to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, October 6 2026."
