DNA evidence found on the body of Hannah Foster matched that of the man accused of her murder with a probability of one in a billion.
Outlining the case against Maninder Pal Singh Kohli prosecutor Nicholas Haggan said the billion to one match proved the 40 year old was responsible for the 17-year-olds murder, rape and kidnap.
Mr Haggan said analysis of DNA evidence found on Hannah’s clothes and in Kohli’s van must have come from the defendant.
“The case against this defendant was now clear and utterly compelling.
“It was he who abducted, raped and murdered Hannah. He snatched her from the street, he drove off with her in his van. He found somewhere quiet and he raped her. He then strangled her and he dumped her body in Allington Lane.
“The following day he dumped her handbag and phone in Southsea and he fled to India.”
Jurors have already heard how Hannah's body was discovered by a 14-year-old boy dumped by the side of Allington Lane in West End the day after she was reported missing by her parents.
Mr Haggan also described how Hannah had dialled 999 after she had been allegedly snatched by Kohli.
The trial at Winchester Crown Court is expected to last up to six weeks.
