A WOMAN has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a breakdown recovery man was killed on a Hampshire dual carriageway.

Susan Lowe was arrested following an accident in which Terry Booth was fatally injured as he went to the aid of a stranded motorist on the A31.

Lowe, 62, of Gypsy Mead, Leeds, Yorkshire, was charged yesterday and is due to appear at New Forest Magistrates’ Court on November 21.

Police say she was driving a Chrysler Voyager when it was in collision with a broken down Peugeot 309 and Mr Booth’s recovery vehicle.

The accident occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A31 at Poulner Hill, near Ringwood, on June 12 at 11.45pm.

Lowe was taken to Southampton General Hospital with neck pains. The driver of the Peugeot, a 49- year-old woman from Bournemouth, suffered a minor head injury and also required medical treatment.

Mr Booth, 58, of Ferndown, Dorset, was employed by Fareham-based Boarhunt Recovery.

Police say he was not in his vehicle at the time of the accident, which happened about 300 yards east of the Poulner intersection.

Crash investigators closed the road for almost 12 hours while they examined the cause of the tragedy. A family statement issued shortly after his death said: “The family, partner and friends are shocked and deeply saddened at the tragic loss of their beloved Terry Booth.

“Terry was doing his job as a roadside technician with utmost commitment and professionalism.”
