A MOTORIST has died in a crash on a major Hampshire road this morning.
Police are warning other drivers to expect several hours of disruption after they shut part of the A31 to investigate the incident.
Emergency services were called at around 7.40am after a Peugeot 306 left the northbound carriageway close to the village of Upper Froyle, near Alton, and ended up in undergrowth “some distance” from the road.
A man, who police believe was the driver of the car, died in the crash.
Police have closed a section of the dual carriageway, and traffic is being diverted off the A31 at the Hen and Chicken public house, through Upper Froyle and back onto the A31.
The main road is expected to remain shut for several hours as specialist officers investigate the crash.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the Peugeot leave the road, or witnessed a collision.
Anyone with information should call Hampshire Police on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting Operation Clover.
