THE finishing touches are being put to Southampton’s historical trail – the newly renamed QE2 Mile.
Saints legend Matt Le Tissier, Daily Echo editor Ian Murray and city council deputy leader Councillor Royston Smith yesterday inspected the last of the cast iron plaques laid on the trail.
The trio, joined by Year 2 pupils from St John’s Infant School, renamed the mile-long route, stretching from London Road to Mayflower Park, after a public competition last year.
The £30,000 11 pairs of plaques mark key events in the city’s history, from the first Roman settlement to the opening of the National Oceanography Centre.
It’s part of a £6m make-over that also includes wider pavements and new street furniture
