Eastleigh Council's Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath Local Area Committee has agreed to spend £10,500 on boosting the borough's Dial-a-Ride Service.

The service, run by Eastleigh Community Services, provides door to door transport for residents who are unable or have difficulty using public transport.

A recent pilot extension to the current scheme generated a considerable increase in the number of passenger journeys and, now, the borough council's five local area committees are set to provide extra funding of £50,000 from developers' contributions to provide a third bus for the service for four years.

The Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath Local Area Committee, councillors were told that the service had around 1,000 registered users and in an average year provided 13,000 passenger trips and a further 5,000 to 6,000 shopping trips.
