Hedge End Town Council has announced a series of events to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The council will be holding a themed quiz night with questions spanning each of the six decades up to and including the 21st century with a specially-commissioned trophy on offer to the winning team on Friday.

The free event, which starts at 7.30pm in the small hall of the 2000 Centre in St John's Road, will be open to all and a buffet will be provided. But quiz enthusiasts are asked to bring their own drinks and glasses.

Saturday will see a memorabilia exhibition, a victory tea party for children and a fabulous Big Band 40s dance at the 2000 Centre.

Tickets for the 7.30pm to 11pm dance featuring the Pete Weston Big Swing Band and Combo will cost £3.50 each and are available from the council offices in the 2000 Centre. The admission price includes a buffet plus the chance to win a day trip to Bruges in Belgium courtesy of Coliseum Coaches.

On Sunday a commemorative plaque will be presented to the Methodist Church in Hedge End in recognition of the major role played by the church and Hedge End parishioners during the Second World War.
