POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a fatal collision near Marwell Zoo, Fishers Pond, on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 11am, a blue Rover MG ZS lost control and left the carriageway near Marwell Manor Farm at the junction of Portsmouth Road and Thompson Lane.

A 68-year-old man from Colden Common died as a result of his injuries.

Following a police appeal, a 42-year-old driver of a blue Subaru voluntarily attended Eastleigh police station on Wednesday night. The man was subsequently arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Team are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw either a blue Rover MG or a blue Subaru in the area around the time of the incident.

Senior Investigating Officer Sgt Michelle Cook, from the Road Death Investigation Team, said: "It's vital that we are able to piece together the exact circumstances of the crash, and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area that may be able to help us with our enquiries to come forward, no matter how small or insignificant they feel the information is.

"Although we are no longer looking for the driver of a blue Subaru, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw either the Subaru or the MG in the surrounding area around the time of the collision."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Team quoting Operation Avon on 0845 045 45 45.
