SOUTHAMPTON port's sales and marketing manager Ray Facey has been promoted to assistant port manager.

The 56-year-old succeeds Matthew Kennerley, who has recently been appointed director of the port of Hull & Goole.

Born in Liverpool, but a resident of Southampton for most of his life, Mr Facey joined the company as a junior management trainee in 1967.

Mr Facey, pictured, who is married with two children and describes himself as a "long-suffering" Saints fan, held the post of commercial manager for ABP Southampton for 18 years prior to his current role.

Port director Doug Morrison said: "During his time at Southampton, Ray has amassed considerable experience and an intricate knowledge of the workings of the port, making him ideal for this position. Ray's expertise is invaluable to the Port of Southampton. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity."
