A SCHEME aimed at giving inner city children the best start in life has teamed up with a Southampton school for a family fun day.

Sure Start Central has joined forces with St John's Infant and Nursery School to host the event, which will include health advice and games to get families on the move.

Highlights for the youngsters will include face painting, a treasure hunt and ten-pin bowling, while parents and carers will be able to find out about home safety from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, job opportunities from Sure Start's employment stand, and childcare from Southampton's Children's Information Service.

Representatives from Quitters - a quit smoking support group - will also be at the event, which takes place at St John's in Castle Way on Saturday, from 11am to 2pm, and is open to parents, carers and children from the central area of Southampton.
