FIBERNET, the Basingstoke-headquartered bespoke telecoms network service provider, has had a great start to the second half of its financial year.

The firm has won a contract, for an undisclosed sum, from broadband service provider Centric Telecom to extend its network across the UK.

The network is designed to underpin the broadband and intelligent services that Centric provides to businesses - guaranteeing them improved efficiency and performance.

Centric's new network will link its sites around the country, including London, through Fibernet's national high-speed fibre optic network.

The dedicated infrastructure being set up by the Basingstoke company will enable Centric to provide network storage and remote data back-up to businesses with a need to secure sensitive data.

Peter Warner, head of pre-sales and provisioning for Centric Telecom, said: "As we expand our operations, Fibernet's extensive national network is able to readily scale to meet our requirements, shortening time to market and improving our competitive edge.

"As a result of the service Fibernet provides, we are able to continually enhance both the range of services we offer and the value that we present to our customers."

Charles McGregor, Fibernet's founder and chief executive, said: "Fibernet's flexible contract terms, geographic coverage and highly robust and resilient network all contribute to helping centric Telecom supply superior, cost-effective broadband and intelligent services to businesses, enabling them to communicate better, faster and more productively."

In April, Fibernet announced improved half-year results, which showed that its total revenue had increased from £18.3million to £24.2m and its operating loss shrank from £2.3m to £0.2m, compared with the same period in the previous year.
