PAUL STURROCK played down the chances of a possible meeting with Saints next season after taking his current side Sheffield Wednesday into the Coca-Cola League One play-off final.

The Scottish boss was sacked by Saints at the start of the campaign, but has responded by guiding the Owls to a 3-1 aggregate win over Brentford in the play-off semi-finals.

Wednesday will now face either Hartlepool or Tranmere at Cardiff on May 29 for the right to face Saints in 2005/06.

Goals from Lee Peacock and Chris Brunt handed Wednesday a 2-1 win at Griffin Park last night following their 1-0 victory in the first leg in South Yorkshire last week.

"I am here tonight to talk about Sheffield Wednesday," said Sturrock when questioned about the chances of taking on Saints next season.

"I am gutted for everybody involved with Southampton that they were relegated, because they are nice people.

"But I have a job to do at Sheffield Wednesday. This club has been in the doldrums for too long, and now we have a chance to move up a league."
