TEA and cakes, a permanent fixture at any school fete, will be on offer at South Wonston Primary School fete on Saturday. However, this year visitors can also find out how to walk off with all the sweet treats.

To tie in with National Walk to School week, visitors to the fete will be able to find out about walking routes in South Wonston, and everyone will be challenged to walk more.

Lee Dawson, of Mid Hampshire Primary Care Trust, said: "Although the focus of the walk to school week is usually to raise awareness of traffic problems, there are lots of health benefits to be gained from walking to and from school.

"In particular, children are brighter, more alert and ready for their first lesson if they have walked to school."

The school fete will be held at South Wonston Primary School from 11.30am. The school is working in partnership with Dever Valley Walks Group. National Walk to School week is from May 23 to May 27.
