Sir.-I would like to raise awareness that travel tokens are for any person suffering from a disability and every senior citizen (male or female), aged 60, living in the borough of Basingstoke and Deane.

For further information, call 01256 845474.

These travel tokens can be used not only on buses but also for taxis and train journeys and to purchase a Senior Railcard. They can also be used through NeighbourCare.

The Basingstoke and Deane Over 55 Forum invited Cllr Brian Gurden, leader of the council, to come along and talk and answer concerns raised about travel concessions.

Cllr Gurden gave a very good talk and went away with food for thought about concerns that were raised by the forum.

Chancellor Gordon Brown has listened to the older person - in 2006, free local bus travel is to be introduced in England for those aged 60 and over. It's something we have been asking for.

The next meeting of the forum is on April 20, at the Civic Offices in London Road, Basingstoke, at 10am for tea and coffee, for a 10.30am start.

Please come along and be part of the Basingstoke and Deane Over 55 Forum.

Get involved and help improve the quality of life for the older person in Basingstoke and Deane.

To register your attendance, call Tim Young on 01256 845318, or e-mail t.young@basingstoke.gov.uk
