TOTTONIANS dropped to fifth in London Three South-West following a heavy 33-7 reverse to Old Wimbledonians, who replace them in the top three.

The visitors were effectively beaten in the first half as the hosts crossed four times to build up a 28-0 interval lead but they were much better in the second half, courtesy of a few harsh half-time words.

They actually won the second half 7-5, thanks to a well-worked try through Neil Angell although Mike Searle should have added a second when he squandered a good overlap in space.

Only a lapse in concentration in the final minute saw Wimbledonians add a fifth but Paul Goodall, pictured above, took heart from his team's second half if markedly unhappy over their showing in the first.

"It was a really shoddy display," he said. "I just cannot put my finger on why it was. Once again, it was another difficult day in London, which wasn't helped by conceding six penalties in the first five minutes.

"But we still can finish third and that is still our aim. But we must win our last three games and we have injuries to lads like Jason Jones, who fell down a pothole in this game, to contend with."

Reading defeated Havant for the eighth time in eight attempts with a 29-20 National League Three South victory at Hooks Lane.

The home side roared into a 15-0 lead after just 11 minutes as Cam Avery and skipper Jon Barfoot found their way through. But they went off the boil as the sleet and snow poured down and Reading edged back into the contest.

Reading led at the break 19-15 only for Nick Cooper to regain the lead on the restart but Reading capitalised on the soggy opposition and added two more tries to claim all five points.

"To say I am disappointed is an understatement," bemoaned director of rugby Adam King.
