Petersfield Heath Pond has reopened for angling after a three-month club enforced rest since the end of November and, as soon as the weather begins to improve, anglers will be out in force trying to catch the lake's six carp over 30lb and hosts of 20lb-plus fish.

Petersfield and District Angling Club made the brave decision to ditch The Hants and Sussex Angling Alliance several seasons ago and haven't looked back since, doubling its membership.

The club's crown jewel is Heath Pond, which is rated as one of the best bream waters in the south.

On the carp front, the Big Un has raced on over the last 12 months - from a previous high of 34lb in May 2004, the lake record now stands at 38lb 6oz.

Membership to Petersfield is £55 for adults, £25 for OAPs and juniors and day tickets are also available.

The CC Moores Isle of Wight awards for February went to John Holton for his cracking Monks brace of Patsy the common that went 30lb 12oz, and Misty the mirror at 37lb 4oz.

No signs of the new stockies at Mopley Pond, however. Dave Whitfield of Hythe braced the conditions to take the best fish of the week with a 21lb 4oz leather from the monk peg on a top banana pot shot boilie.

Broadlands continues to fish well for pike with some multiple bags, mainly from around the Blackwater Corner areas.
