THE funeral of Southampton teenager Lewis Grundy, who died in a late-night moped accident took place at Hollybrook Cemetery Chapel yesterday.

About 200 people attended, including many pupils from Oaklands Community School where Lewis, pictured above, was a former pupil.

Head teacher Dr Peter Hollis paid tribute to the 17-year-old painter and decorator, who lived with his father in Palm Road, Aldermoor, during a short speech at the service.

Afterwards he said: "I knew him very well as head teacher because he spent a lot of time with me. We will miss his smile."

A minute's silence was held at the Lordshill school, where Lewis's two younger brothers, Liam and Lloyd, are pupils, at noon during the time of the funeral.

Lewis died instantly after the moped he was riding was in collision with a Volkswagen Golf in Brownhill Way between the M271 roundabout and the junction with Redlands Lane.

His pillion passenger Jamie Gosney, 15, of Buttermere Close Millbrook, also died in the crash that happened at 11.23pm on January 21.

Jamie's funeral took place on Tuesday at St Peter's Church in Maybush. About 400 people attended the service, including many of his classmates from Millbrook Community School where he was a pupil.

Any witnesses should call Totton Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 4545.

In a letter to the Daily Echo, Lewis's ex-girlfriend, Chanel-Jade Lambert, paid tribute. She said:

Dear Sir

"I would like to thank you for your lovely write-up on Jamie and Lewis, the teenage friends who died in the moped collision.

Lewis was my ex-boyfriend and we got on really well, he was so lovely and it is so sad to think that his life was taken from him so soon.

"I would just like to say that he was such a lovely boy and I thought so much of him. I miss him and I love him."

Chanel.
