Eastleigh missed out on a place in the last eight of the Bryco Cup last night after losing 2-1 to Hampton & Richmond Borough in a dramatic finale at the Sparshatts Stadium.

The Londoners were hanging onto a 30th-minute strike by Adrian Allen, who had latched onto a through ball to beat keeper Lee Webber, as the tie entered the final minute when heavy Eastleigh pressure finally paid dividends.

The ball was bouncing around the Hampton area and Tyronne Bowers pounced to head it high into the roof of the net and seemingly send the fourth round clash spinning into extra-time.

Yet, within 20 seconds, Eastleigh failed to pick up Marcello Fernandes in midfield and he rocked home the Hampton winner from fully 40 yards with the final whistle sounding just seconds later.

Eastleigh chairman Roger Sherwood sighed: "You'll only see a goal like their winner once every five seasons - it was a real wonder strike and absolutely unstoppable.

"Hampton were a very good side and they probably edged it on the night, although it was a real sickener to lose it just seconds after we had equalised.

"We missed Andy Forbes, Nicky Banger and Paul Sales up front but Craig McAllister looked OK - he's certainly a better player than when he left here."

In Sydenhams Wessex League Division 2, Andover New Street eased their relegation fears whilst compounding those of bottom club AFC Aldermaston with a 2-1 away victory.

Andover took the lead after 27 minutes from the penalty spot. Casson Spencer was pulled back in the area and Stuart Anderson made no mistake from 12 yards with Spencer crossing for Scott Seddon to make it 2-0 early in the second half.

The hosts pulled a goal back on 65 minutes when James O'Keefe was fouled in the penalty area and Barry Smith rapped in his 19th goal of the season from the spot.

Whitchurch and Liss slugged out a 1-1 draw at Longmeadow.

Micky Barrow raced onto Steve Harding's through ball to lob the keeper and give the visitors a second minute lead. But the hosts levelled ten minutes from time when Chris Iddles beat the Liss offside trap to slot the ball past the advancing keeper.
