ISLE OF WIGHT angler Spenser Wright had an unbelievable session on legendary Monks Pool on the Isle of Wight.

He broke the Island record for the biggest two fish recorded in 24 hours and also equalled the Island common record.

Wright has had an unbelievable season and his tally now stands at 20 30- pound-plus fish and four 40s since January 1.

Wright started his latest session with Black Spot at 44lb 1oz - 2lb 2oz down on its last weight when caught by Nick Ring a fortnight ago.

Wright then followed up with Amigo, at 41lb 3oz, to land the Island brace record.

Next to the bank was the Spring Common at 33lb 9oz which equalled Tim Oatley's record set the previous week with Big Scale.

Wright finished off his session with Chunky, up 7lb 8oz on its previous best weight at 36lb 8oz, plus a 29lb 14oz common and two low 20s.

Elsewhere on the Island, the only other fish were a brace weighing 19lb 4oz and 25lb 7oz by Andy Liptrot from the Merstone Syndicate water.

A brand new venue, which look set to follow in the footsteps of Monks and Merstone is set to open in the next 12 months, with Lee Pettitt launching a one-and-a-half-acre syndicate water which has just been developed and will be called Wedge Pool.

Pettitt has been growing a batch of Fishers Pond fish he purchased a couple of years ago from New Forest Carp Specialists Heather Fisheries and a recent netting saw 18 moved from his stock pond into Wedge Pool.

Among the fish stocked were four mirrors between 30lb and 33lb 6oz, along with a brace of commons weighing 29lb 9oz and 29lb 7oz. The smallest fish stocked was 20lb.

Pettitt intends to add a further seven 20s from another stock pond in the near future, meaning the venue will open with 25 20-plus fish.
