KASEY Keller believes Saints CAN beat the drop - but would like to see them make signings during the transfer window.

The American performed extremely well against Manchester United despite the 3-0 defeat in what is expected to be the final game of his loan spell at Saints.

But he had words of encouragement for his team-mates for the remainder of the season.

"As a team, if they get a few more people fit and get going then there is no reason why they cannot claw themselves out of this problem that they are in," he said.

"If the chairman can bring in one or two faces in the window, there's no question they have enough talent here.

"At the moment it just seems like everyone is taking a turn making a mistake. The club need to get in a run of game where nobody has a mistake.

"Then if you can get say seven points in three games you are comfortable mid-table.

"As I said, a new face or two would never hurt and then you go from there.

"I will obviously be looking at the results very closely over the rest of the season and hoping the very best for everybody at the club.

"They are capable, but it still has to be done.

"From what I have seen of the club it would be a detriment to the Premiership if they didn't stay up."

Keller he had been happy with his contribution while Niemi recovered from knee surgery.

He said: "I have had a lot of fun but it is up to the team now and I wish them every success.

"I wish we could have got a few more points during my time here because they are a good group of guys.

"I came to help out the best I can, but Antti's back now and he has obviously been one of the top goalkeepers in the last couple of years.

"So the club is in safe hands and hopefully he stays fit and the team climbs the table.

"When the loan's up in a few days I'll go back to Tottenham and see and make some decisions based on what options there are.

"I feel as fit as I ever have and I'm better position-wise and experience and there is life in me yet."

Of Saturday's game, Keller admitted the first goal had proved crucial.

He said: "It was a disappointing way to lose, especially the way the first-half had gone.

"Unfortunately it wasn't really a case of somebody smashing one into the top corner, it was a case of giving away goals that were defendable.

"That is the main disappointment.

"They started to gain a little bit of momentum at the end of the first 45, so at the start of the second-half we really needed to stamp our authority on the game - at least defensively.

"I have won here without being the better team.

"You need that bit of luck, you need everyone switched on for 90 minutes.

"But unfortunately once they got that first goal we were always up against it.

"Once they went 2-0 up it was tough.

"Now we need to pick it up again - well, I guess the guys do, I am done now."
