SIZZLING Stockbridge booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup for the first time in their 111-year history with a 2-0 home victory over Division 1 outfit Christchurch.

The Division 2 side struck midway through the first half when a cross-cum-shot by Lewis Bain hit the far post and rebounded into the net to give them the lead.

The home side clinched their place in the last eight on 78 minutes, Ryan Boare flicking the ball over a defender before firing home from just inside the penalty area.

"We played really well today and 2-0 probably isn't a fair reflection as they haven't hurt us at all," smiled Stockbridge boss Barry Andrews.

'Bridge's Division 2 rivals Liss Athletic were desperately unlucky not to be joining them after losing out 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out with Andover after a thrilling 4-4 draw.

"I'm absolutely gutted. We totally outplayed them and a couple of defensive errors have cost us," sighed Liss manager Tim Potter.

Danny Burrows gave the underdogs a 35th-minute lead that Danny Sullivan wiped out for the Lions before half time. A bullet header by Micky Barrow and an Andy Neal effort then put Liss 3-1 up with six minutes remaining only for a Justin Bennett double to force extra-time.

Burrows' half-volley again put the home side ahead in the first period of extra time with Sullivan striking five minutes from time to square the tie at 4-4.

"Give Liss credit, we've had nine lives out there today," admitted new Andover boss Adie Burford.

Goal-machine Jamie Laidlaw, above, hoisted his season's tally to 32 with a four-goal salvo as Winchester City comfortably saw off Romsey Town 5-0, Lloyd Webber also netting, while Moneyfields were eclipsed 6-0 by Farnborough Town from the Conference.

Goalkeeper Duncan Farmery was the Otterbourne hero as the Division 3 side beat Aldershot-based Courtmoor 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out after the teams had drawn 1-1 in their Hampshire Intermediate Cup clash.

Farmery saved all three spot-kicks to secure the Otters' passage into the fourth round. Jamie Nash had earlier equalised Courtmoor's opener and the home side then had five efforts cleared off the line in a one-way tie.

Holders Colden Common eased through to the next round with a 4-1 victory over another Aldershot side, Eversley, James Atterbury's far post header setting the ball rolling for Common right on half-time.

Dean Higgins's 56th-minute free kick evaded everyone but not the net and Simon Stillwell dived headlong to steer home Higgins' free kick to make it 3-0 after 62 minutes.

Paul Kelly pulled a goal back for the Aldershot Premier side on 78 minutes but Higgins soon netted at the second attempt to complete Common's win.

Previously goal-shy Ordnance Survey netted through Paul Lawrence (30), Ryan Bath (55), Terry Coupland (65) and James Chalk (75) to sink East Cowes Vics' Reserves by a comfortable 4-0 margin.

Two goals by Paul Xiberras, who included one from the penalty spot, a Darren Sked effort and two stunning 30-yard strikes from Paul Griffiths and Rory Todd saw Division 3 leaders Farnborough North End nap Brockenhurst Reserves 5-1.
