WORLD number three Paul Hunter had the shock of his snooker life at Chandler's Ford Snooker Club.

The plan was for Hunter to demonstrate his silky skills to a capacity 100-strong audience. But in his first frame he lost to 14-year-old Joshua Hancock-Brown.

Ten juniors paid £200 each for an exhibition frame - and Hancock-Brown, pictured right, was told two weeks before that he would play Hunter as a 14th birthday present.

Given the week off school to practice, the Portsmouth lad, who spends his weekends in Southampton, admitted he was terrified before the start.

But Hunter, struggling to adapt to a new table, missed a frame-winning pink and Hancock-Brown cleared up to win 45-34.

Hunter made no mistake winning the remaining nine matches with breaks of 88, 90, 121, 111, 75 and 96.

Dave Lenton, 18, Matt Woods, 14, and Jason Hildyard, 12, were the only others to restrict him to breaks of less than 50.

A late frame was auctioned for charity and eight-year-old Jack Newman took on Hunter, with dad Mark forking out £100. Armed with a borrowed cue, helped by Hunter and aided by some highly dubious refereeing decisions from Mike Daly, the Nightingale Primary Schoolboy was roared on to a 74-59 victory.

In the traditional early morning curtain-raiser to the annual exhibition match Lee Roling, 13, upset the form book to beat David Lawrence in the under-19 John Parrot Cup.

Nick Jennings, 13, lost a two-frame lead to 14-year-old Dan Hildyard, only to win the fifth on the black to take an early lead in week one of the new £900 Under-21 Roll Up.

Hildyard, with a ten-point start, had the top result, a 3-0 semi-final win over Mark McLean, while pre-series favourite Dave Lawrence of Portsmouth lost to 18-year-old Mike Gray.

Billy Castle lost in five frames in the semis to move into joint third with McLean and Jason Hildyard, who saw off Mike Piper in the plate final.

Peter Maraziotis (West End) ended the month with a trophy, to add to his £420 October winnings, after the Chandler's Ford team of Nick Jennings, Dan Hildyard, Arran Newman and himself beat off 16 other four-man teams to win the South of England Cuestars junior team event at Gosport.

Their B team of Will Baird, Jo Finch, Jack Hyom and Jason Hildyard reached the plate final.

Jordan Sainsbury looks unbeatable as he heads the U13 Premier league while in the Under-10 group Stephan Fielding won both his frames.

Nick Jennings won all his Under-19 league games to close to within one point of Dan Hildyard (Fair Oak).

Hildyard registered a new high of 90 in a practice session.
