FA CUP winner Peter Osgood is tipping Glenn Hoddle to become the club's third manager/head coach of the 2004/05 season.
Speculation is again rife that Hoddle will be brought in to replace Steve Wigley if Saints lose to Pompey at St Mary's on Saturday.
Ex-Saints striker Peter Osgood reckons Hoddle, below, is the man to restore the pride to Saints - especially after Hoddle suddenly dipped out of the running to take over at West Brom last weekend, sparking fresh rumours he was poised to rejoin Saints.
"It's proven that Steve is not the right man for the job," said Osgood. "He's given it his best shot but the chairman has got to do something very quickly.
"He's certainly taken some stick.
"He's a very intelligent man and a good businessman but he needs to put his hands up, admit he's made a mistake and get in a proven name, someone who can work without interference and just get on with it.
"Now Glenn Hoddle should come in.
"I didn't blame him for going to Tottenham, he was going to the club where he was brought up, he feels about Spurs as I feel about Chelsea
"But it's not about individuals, it's about Southampton Football Club and the most important thing is that we stay in the Premiership."
Meanwhile, bookies William Hill yesterday briefly suspended betting on Wigley to be the next managerial departure in the Premiership following Tuesday's cup nightmare.
He is now evens favourite to be the next casualty.
