CHILDREN from a Southampton primary school have been throwing themselves into the spirit of Christmas by packing dozens of shoe boxes full of gifts to send to needy children.
Oakfield Primary School pupils have filled almost 70 boxes with toys, games, sweets and warm clothing as part of Operation Christmas Child.
This is the fourth year that the school has taken part in the Samaritan's Purse appeal which aims to send thousands of shoeboxes filled with gifts to youngsters in central and eastern European countries.
"The children have loved getting involved," said deputy head teacher Kila Hedges.
"By the time they are taken to the collection point at the beginning of December we hope to have about 70 boxes."
