Winchester athlete Marius Kwint claimed third place at the third round of the 2004 Concept 2 British Rowathlon series at Thruxton Race Circuit last weekend.

Marius finished ahead of nearly 150 other athletes to collect his medal after completing the three-discipline event in a time of 1 hour 3 minutes 21 seconds.

The British Rowathlon series is run on a similar format to triathlons but swimming is replaced with a stint on the Concept 2 Indoor Rower.

The competition is backed by the British Triathlon Association and points will be awarded at each event to decide the series' men's and women's champions.

There are four events in the series, taking place over the next few months, with four age categories - 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-plus - for both men and women.

The first event took place at Castle Combe with the second at the Reading Velodrome earlier this month. The series ends at Marlow Rowing Club tomorrow.

Marius's top three scores will be added together at the end of the series to make his final score. The top scorers from each age category will win free entry to the European Indoor Rowing Championship in Amsterdam in December this year, along with two nights' accommodation and £100 towards their travel expenses.
