Winchester face the first major test of their title qualifications tomorrow.

They put their three-match unbeaten record on the line against Tottonians, who also have three wins under their belts in London Three South-West.

At least one record will go - and Winchester are likely to start favourites as the home side.

The visitors, however, have the luxury of naming an unchanged starting line-up after beating fancied Old Wimbledonians last week, although that means skipper Paul Goodall is still not fit to return.

Barry Bridgman includes new signing Andy Smith on the Winchester wing, moving Ed Ravenhill to the centre which sees goal-kicker Dan Kinsey dropped to the replacements' bench, where Ian Millar joins him. The forwards remain as last week.

Totts' captain knows that this is a vital game for them. He rates it "the ultimate test for us against the league favourites. They have a lot of experience and it will be difficult to beat them on their patch.

"But I have every confidence in the team. Providing our forwards turn in another performance like last week and give the backs a good platform, it will be a close game."

For the first time since the opening game of the season, Alton name their full strength side, which will be needed as they play one of the sides below them in the table, Weybridge Vandals.

A victory is needed to stave off thoughts of relegation this early in the campaign and the return of RAF Under-21 captain Stuart Bratt and Gareth Evans at scrum-half is a massive boost for Tom O'Connor's side.

In London Four South-West, Romsey are forced to ring the changes for their must-win game at Old Amplefordians and give debuts to new signings Paul Goodyear at fly-half (for departed Exeter University student Graham Noble) and former Totts full-back Matt Boshier.

Ex-Hamble lock Murray Palmer plays at tight-head prop with Stuart McCormick jetting off to South Africa to be at teammate Justin Jeffrey's wedding while Jerry Roberts has come out of retirement to replace the unavailable JJ Barber.

Southampton visit old foes Petersfield with a vast mixture of youth and experience in their backs, especially with Tom Locke being given a debut in the centre and Paul Rutherford playing on the wing.

The two clubs, who have played out some close-fought contests in recent times, will expect nothing else but the same at Penns Place tomorrow.

Skipper Tony Cador said: "Games between the two are always close, but we need to win this. After last week, we have a bit of confidence back, so we can go into this game believing in ourselves."
