A SCHEME to recycle computers for the good of the community has celebrated its first anniversary.

ICyc, a Fareham Borough Council funded e-borough initiative, provides community groups with free PCs, software and IT training.

The scheme brings together partners from the public and private sectors to ensure that old PCs are reused.

The partnership, which is led by the council and co-ordinated by The Beneficial Foundation, is made up of Taylor Made Computer Solutions - which collects redundant PCs from the region's big businesses, Skillploy - a mental health charity whose clients refurbish them, and Portsmouth College.

In its first year the scheme has helped six community organisations. One of the latest beneficiaries of the scheme has been Oak Meadow Centre, which provides support for young children and families. It was at the centre, in Tewksbury Avenue, Fareham, that the scheme marked its first anniversary yesterday, with the mayor.
