EX-SAINT Adam Wallace struck from the penalty spot for the second game running to salvage Salisbury City a 2-2 Ryman Premier draw at Staines Town.

But for solid goalkeeping from Kevin Sawyer, City could have been two down in the opening five minutes.

Instead it was the Whites who drew first blood when Matt Tubbs beat the keeper at the second attempt with six minutes gone.

But Staines turned the tables with a double whammy from Gavin Tomlin in the 21st and 23rd minutes - the first following a cruel ricochet off Josh Thomas.

With 17 minutes to go Whites equalised. Scott Bartlett's long cross looked to be heading straight for the keeper when Wallace, pictured, was pulled down for no apparent reason. He got up to strike the penalty into the keeper's left-hand corner.

The evening ended on a sour note when three Salisbury players and four from Staines were cautioned for misconduct after the final whistle.

Caretaker boss Mark Kelly reflected: "We were sloppy in conceding two goals. When we went 1-0 up we should have worked even harder, but we didn't and we were punished for it. I'll walk away and think about when we were sloppy and it will annoy me."

Following the high of Saturday's 2-1 win at Croydon, Bashley had to settle for a 0-0 Ryman 1 draw at home to Corinthian Casuals after missing a hatful of early chances.

Richard Gillespie's shot bounced off the keeper's chest, Danny Gibbons headed over and Mamadouba Toure missed with the keeper to beat.

Skipper Mat Jones had another glorious chance, but dragged his shot past the far post.

Manager Geoff Butler said: "For 20 or 25 minutes we were excellent. They (Casuals) had nothing in the first half, but they hit us on the break a bit in the second half and were always a threat. Even so, we got the ball in behind them twice late on but Gibbons and Graeme Gee couldn't get on the end of it. I look upon it as two points dropped."

Newport IoW and Fleet Town are still pointless after suffering 1-0 defeats.

Fleet lost out at home to a Molesey side managed by their former boss Steve Beeks, while Newport went down to a 35th-minute bullet header at Horsham.

Island striker Ashley Wright missed a decent chance to equalise after the break, but manager John Linington admitted: "We struggled a bit in the first half. It was only when we got at them after the break and put in some tackles that we made them look ordinary. We have to compete."

Newport's evening got off to a bad start when the team coach broke down and they had to travel by club minibus and cars.
