THE warm weather contributed to the high quality of exhibits this year at Broughton and Bossington Horticu-ltural Society's annual flower, vegetable and craft show.

In the Star Gardeners class a challenge is offered to villagers to grow four particular vegetables and instruction is given by a National Vegetable exhibitor.

Some 11 people took part, some of whom had never previously grown vegetables, with the eventual winner being Betty Hewlett.

In the show itself the overall prize winner was Roger Browning who had never entered the show before.

He won The Open Challenge Cup for most points in the show, the Dr Hobbs Cup for most points in the village section, the Mrs Bridge Cup for most points in the open section, bronze medals for best exhibits, the Garden News top tray and the best trug of vegetables.

Pete Good won the two principal cups for flower exhibits - the Gladys and Henry Robinson Trophy for most points in the village section and the Royston Blake Trophy for most points in the Open section.

Tom Joyce won the Garden News Top Vase and the Borg Cardona Cup for the best floral exhibit in the show. Other winners were Julie Smith, Floral Cup; Ernie Harvey, best fruit exhibit: Tim Hurley, the Member's Cup for best petunia.

The home crafts section was well supported this year with Louise Warren winning the Home Craft Trophy for most points; Christine Fletcher won best cookery exhibit and Sheila Loader took best craft exhibit. The Gingerbread Shield winner was Sally Loader.

In the photography section the overall winner was Beryl Pratley.

The winner in the pre-school section was Alistair Evans; primary school section, Henry Howells; primary school older section, Dion Collis and secondary school section, Jenny Warren. Trophies were also presented to Melanie Hurley for best vegetable garden, Derek Allen for best flower garden and The Tally Ho for best hanging basket.
