EXCITEMENT! There is great excitement at the news that Sherfield will represent Hampshire in the Calor Village of the Year.

Parish council chairman Bruce Batting said: "There is still lots of work to do to improve on what we have achieved. We are lucky this time we will get expert guidance from the county organisers."

The national competition is in October - fingers crossed!

PARISH council: The August meeting will be held on Tuesday in Liddell Hall, at 7.30pm.

CONGRATULATIONS! Sam (from Hair Affair) and James would like all their Sherfield friends to know that they now have a lovely baby girl named Nyha, weighing around 7lbs, and born on July 11. We are still awaiting news from Olivia.

PLAYSCHEME: A summer playscheme is being held at the village hall this week, Monday to Friday, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

The cost is £1 per child, per session. Please note under fives need to be accompanied by their parent/carer.

For details, call 01256 844847.

SHOWTIME! It's that time of year again, to enter something into the show - a photo, some flowers, fruit or handicrafts.

Forms are available from The Shop, post office, Country Gardens, One Stop in Bramley or Sally Brain on 01256 882275.

The show is on Saturday, September 4, starting at 2.30pm in the village hall, but please get your entry forms in early. It really helps the organisers.

ERROR: It was lovely to read the article about Sherfield and Village of the Year last week, page six. However, it should be noted that our village garage is Dodd's Garage and not Dunn's.

FINALLY: Best wishes to Gladys Bolt, who has recently had a hip replacement operation at Basingstoke hospital. Although not a village resident, Gladys spends a lot of time in Sherfield.

Get well soon mum!
