One Big Saturday - Broadlands, Romsey

THE organisers were quite right. This has to be one of the biggest Saturdays I've ever had.

Nine long hours of lounging in the sunshine in the beautiful grounds of Broadlands while listening to some of the greatest hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Of course I didn't spend the whole time lounging. In fact, it only took Boney M about three notes of their karaoke classic The Rivers of Babylon to have me on my feet for a boogie - and I wasn't the first.

Thousands of cheesy music lovers gathered to enjoy a packed line-up of artists which kicked off with 70s rock and rollers Showaddywaddy.

There were a long line of superb performances, but my stars of the show were actually a tribute act.

Being an Abba lover, Abba Gold didn't have too much work to do to get me dancing to Waterloo, VoulezVouz, Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen, but they put on one of the best Abba shows I've ever seen. And I've seen most of them.

I screamed along every word with the rest of the excited crowd, many in fancy dress and busy waving an incredible assortment of brightly-coloured disco toys.

After that, Tony Hadley, of Spandau Ballet fame, had his work cut out keeping the crowd going.

His series of tracks from last year's reality show Reborn in the USA didn't do it for me, but I was back on my feet for the Spandau classics True and Gold.

What a wonderful way to spend a sunny Saturday.
