THE rain managed to keep away for most of the day on Sunday as thousands gathered in Walworth Sports Ground for this year's Andover Show.

Around 4,000 people turned out on Sunday to take part in fun activities such as ferret racing, John Walls Funfair, competitions, raffles and watch displays from the local TAGB Tae Kwon Do Club, Drum Runners, Professor Crump, Punch and Judy, as well as an It's a Knockout Competition.

Visitors also enjoyed the 45 trade stands.

Over the weekend there was a six-a-side football competition. Wolversdene Club won the under 11s and Basing Rovers won the under 12s.

Rod Woodland, Lions Club president, said: "Going around the show and hearing some of the responses was great."

Despite the downpour at the end of the day the event ended with Burden Builders winning the It's a Knockout Competition, which included games like the sticky ball game, the doughnut delivery game, the caterpillar race, the slide of doom and animal quackers.

The winners donated their £500 prize to Andover Lions and District Club.

Visitors were given the opportunity to win £500, a microwave oven, a hot-air balloon ride, a golf voucher, meal vouchers and a cuddly toy, in the grand raffle.

The Andover Advertiser stall was a great attraction with dozens of people entering their Have I Got New For You competition, with the chance to win a DVD player.

Rod said: "It was great to see the Andover Advertiser there.

"Without your good selves to publicise the event it's difficult to get the message across."
