Hampshire League - County Division 1

Burridge II. (149 all out) lost to Fair Oak (318 for 3) by 169 runs

FAIR OAK'S four senior elevens scored a total of 1,047 runs on Saturday for the loss of just twelve wickets - and collected 94 points from a possible 96 on offer.

Leading the way were the club's first XI, whose win at Burridge was their fifth in the five games they have so far played in County 1.

Morne van Rooyen, batting at number three, made his first 'ton' for the club, and was still around at the finish with 116 not out. His second-wicket stand with Mark Thorne (85) was worth 141, while his third-wicket partnership with Bruce Cooper (41) yielded another 76.

All the Burridge bowlers proved expensive, Creal, Betts and Belverstone each taking one wicket.

Meridian TV sports presenter Belverstone also featured with the bat, top scoring with 23 not out batting at number nine. But by then the result was a foregone conclusion with Derek Manning (2-46) and James Featherstone (3-22) blowing away the Burridge top order.

The visitors eventually limped to 149 all out at the end of the 29th over. Leg-spinner Rhys Oxley took 3 for 19 while Greig Stewart and Morne van Rooyen completed the formalities with a wicket apiece.

Fair Oak II skipper Dave Ember blasted his maiden century, making an unbeaten 148 of his side's 295 for 4 in Division 1 South at home to Farehaven.

John Lomas gave good support with 82, D Reeder taking two wickets.

Fred Selman's 86 not out was the foundation of Farehaven's reply, which closed at 189 for 6. T Cake made 36; colts bowlers Andy Mash (3-33) and Ross Stewart (2-65) were successful with the ball, but Oaks' performance in the field was untidy and lacked discipline.

Capital batted first in South East Division 3 against Fair Oak III and were skittled out for 117, largely thanks to the efforts of Lee Rennison (6-17) and Steve White (2-21). Gareth Court top-scored for the Eastleigh side with 38.

In reply, Oaks reached their victory target in 23 overs for the loss of two wickets. Ross Phillips stroked 48 and Andy Stewart sealed victory with an unbeaten 31.

Skipper Mike McElroy plundered an unbeaten 138 and shared a partnership of 208 with Tom Hockenhull (91) as Fair Oak IV racked up a massive 316 for 3 at Wildern II in Division 4 Central.

Oaks ensured maximum points by bowling their opponents out for 148, opener Pete Ancill making 84. McElroy - inevitably - and Matt Burrell took three wickets each for the victors.
