AN Eastleigh postal service worker has stamped her authority on the archery world with success in the UK Masters.

Katy Moir cruised to victory in the ladies' compound section of the tournament at Lilleshall Sports Centre in Shropshire to win the White Rose Trophy - beating 19 other women in the process.

Katy has been the number one female archer in the country for the past two years and is highly ranked in Europe.

Katy, who represents AC Delco Bowmen - the club train at Stoneham Lane in Eastleigh - has competed in the sport all over the world.

But she has to finance her own travels as the compound bow she uses is not recognised by the government and lottery-funded Sports Council UK - unlike the more traditional recurve bow.

The future could be brighter for compound archers, however, as the IOC is rumoured to be considering incorporating the style into the Olympics.

Katy's road to the top of her sport is remarkable. She was forced out by tendon damage in a wrist and did not fire an arrow for ten years. But since making her comeback in 1994, she has qualified as a Grandmaster Bowman, the highest grade possible.
