VILLAGE of the Year: Representatives from village groups and activities were at the hall last Saturday, when judges from "Hampshire Village of the Year" came to make their assessment.

There was lively chatter as they moved around the displays and enjoyed a short break with some of farmer Gosden's delicious ice-cream.

As a backdrop to the morning, an overhead projector displayed scenes from the village.

Earlier, the judges had been taken on a tour, visiting the Green, the church and Longbridge Mill.

Parish clerk Lucy Marshall said: "I think the judges genuinely enjoyed themselves and were suitably impressed."

She added: "It was a 'feel good' experience to boost those who contribute weekly to their particular group or village activity; a chance to explain special interests and new projects and to appreciate what others do for us as members of a very special village."

Fingers crossed until July, when we hear the results!
