NEW £2.5m signing Jelle Van Damme can help solve one of Paul Sturrock's main problems at St Mary's - if he can curb his aggression!

The 20-year-old Belgian international left-back, pictured, became Sturrock's first main signing as Saints boss on Tuesday.

And the former Ajax player's arrival will ensure Sturrock is not forced to "sacrifice" others by playing them out of position.

Sturrock admitted: "Jelle is young and has still got a few wrinkles in his game. It's a very different style in Holland than in England but we're very hopeful he'll adapt very quickly.

"He's very aggressive, very forceful and brings an exuberance to the game, he wants to get forward and is very athletic.

"The left side has been a problem to us as far as getting crosses in the box is concerned.

"We seem to be a very right-sided team and a lot of players have had to sacrifice themselves in a wide left position for the team and have been uncomfortable in that role. We've got to start putting left-footed players in those positions to give us a blend and a shape to the side on the left side."
