BUDDING Andover football players are gearing up for the second Troy Parker Tournament to raise charity funds in memory of the John Hanson schoolboy who loved the sport.

Andover's keenest young soccer stars will be facing each other in the six-a-side knockout competition this weekend with every penny going to charity.

The money will be split between the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust and the paediatric intensive care unit in Southampton where 12-year-old Troy was cared for before losing his fight for life.

Troy's mother Carlie Annetts said: "More and more kids seem to wear helmets in Andover now, so I know Troy hasn't died in vain.

"I hope everyone enjoys the football and all the stalls, raffles and entertainment put on this weekend."

Southampton FC fans have the chance to bid for a home and away shirt signed by some of the club's heroes of yesteryear and today.

Also on offer is a signed photo of Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a signed Tottenham Hotspurs poster of the 1962 FA cup winning team.

The Troy Parker Charity Shield tournament, run by Test Valley Lions Football Club, kicks off at 10am tomorrow and at the same time on Sunday on the Walworth Industrial Estate playing fields.
