It was the turn of the pairs players last week to try to qualify for a place in the last eight on finals night and the evening produced some great results in venues across the town.
Last year's champions, Nigel Hewer and Paul Williams from Chute Club, safely negotiated their way through the draw at the Anton Arms to ensure their place.
At New Street Paul Cox and Dickie Pearson won through on board one, having survived a major scare from Shaun Yates and Pete Smith from the Wolversdene Club in the first round.
