NEWPORT FC have announced they will be staying at their St Georges Park ground for at least another two years.

The financially troubled Isle of Wight club have struck an initial two-year deal to lease the ground from South Coast Leisure, with Newport's board confident that the pitch, along with other facilities at the St Georges Park site, could be available for an extended lease in the near future.

In a statement, the club added: "The Board have expressed the view that this facility should be made available to not only the supporters, but the community as a whole.

"The St Georges Park site is an important part of the community and as such should be available to be used. The clubhouse will be open every evening to the public from the start of the European Championships and beyond.

"Newport Football Club also wish to have community participation by forming darts and pool teams using the clubhouse."

Meanwhile back on the pitch, Newport have named Fred Woodford as the reserve team manager.

Woodford played most of his football at Ventnor and has also seen Hampshire League action for West Wight. He is a qualified coach who works with Portsmouth within their coaching in the community programme as well as being the manager of the successful Ventnor under-14s.

Newport manager John Lingington said: "I hope that along with managing the reserves, and with his knowledge of the Island's youth football, there will be an opportunity to develop the talents of youth players around the island"

The Newport FC Supporters Trust meeting due for June 7 will now be held one day later on Tuesday, June 8, at the clubhouse 7pm.
