HARBOUR LIGHTS Picture House in Ocean Village, Southampton, is offering late night film goers another chance to see David Lynch's classic but disturbing 1986 film, Blue Velvet.

The film, depicting among other things sadomasochistic sex, tends to provoke strong reactions from audiences, who either love it or find it offensive.

The story of the film is told from the viewpoint of a young man, Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan), who returns to his seemingly-sleepy hometown to discover that a dark world exists beneath its surface.

After discovering a severed ear in a field and being unhappy with the police investigation surrounding it he begins some investigations of his own.

These lead him to a beautiful and mysterious woman, Dorothy Valens (Isabella Rossellini) and the violent, creepy and sadistic man, Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) that she is involved with.

A tense, often uncomfortable film to watch, Blue Velvet offers a window on a nightmarish world which has delighted legions of devoted fans for almost 20 years.

Saturday. Performance: 11pm. Box office: 023 8033 5533.
