A GROUND-breaking project to improve the lives of chronic disease sufferers is coming to Fareham.

The Expert Patients Programme is designed to come to the rescue of MS sufferers, those with arthritis, asthmatics, Parkinson's Disease sufferers or patients with any other long-term medical condition which has a daily impact on their lives.

Fareham and Gosport Primary Care Trust have already held four courses through their involvement in the pilot phase of the scheme and are now bringing the first of the schemes proper to Portchester in June and July.

Former nurse and MS sufferer Tina Blackwood is running the programme.

She said: "It's great to be able to get together with people with similar concerns. Otherwise it's easy to feel isolated and like you're the only one who is feeling that way.

"The courses look at the impact diagnosis has and they are a great way of getting to hard-to-reach patients.

"Both the patient and medical staff are experts in their own way, but this leads to better partnership between the two."

Course tutors are themselves all chronic disease sufferers.

The weekly self-referral course is restricted to 16, but a waiting list for future courses is available. Call Tina on 01329 226110 for further details.
