SINCE Allsorts Psychic Cafe opened its doors a year-and-a-half ago, it has gone from strength to strength.

With tarot cards, mediumship and Indian head massage on the menu, there was little room for food other than home-made cakes and herbal teas.

But now owner Kelvin Woodage, a psychic medium, has introduced evening meals.

On a Friday or Saturday evening, you can take your pick from organic vegan meals.

Most Saturday evenings, food is the only thing available, but on Friday nights you can have your meal as part of a workshop.

I and my two dining guests joined in with the Gun Dun Workshop, which was basically a drumming workshop using bongo drums.

It certainly was a very different start to our meal, but it was great fun and it certainly helped us to work up an appetite.

No alcohol is available at the cafe - instead you can drink organic fruit juices or chai.

Chai is Indian spicy tea made from a blend of cardamom, black pepper, ginger, cloves, black tea, brown sugar and soya milk.

It is a surprisingly delicious drink. The menu is slightly limited with only three dishes but it does change each week. The options were vegan pizza, humus toasties and Nuzuri Sana - an African stew.

My husband went for the stew and our dining partner chose the pizza.

The stew was delicious. It was spicy, but the mango and pineapple which were mixed in with the vegetables combated the heat of the spices.

It was served with a generous portion of basmati rice and a green leafy salad that was dressed with hemp oil (which is nothing illegal!).

The pizza was piled high with organic vegetables and the special tomato sauce was given added nuttiness by the addition of a generous sprinkling of hemp seeds.

Afterwards we all had a piece of vegan chocolate cake, which was rich and moist, and were given an impromptu reading by Kelvin.

For only a fiver each including the workshop, it made for a very unusual, yet delicious, evening out.
