THE boss of a Fareham chartered surveyors company says highways chiefs ignored his warnings about the dangers of the A32 road which has claimed two lives in the last year.

Chris Daniells claims roads bosses ignored his pleas for action on the dangerous road - despite several verbal and written warnings to council chiefs last year.

Now Mr Daniells, of Daniells Harrison, is supporting the Daily Echo-backed call for safety measures to be introduced on the road near Wickham where three deaths have occurred in the last year alone.

Mr Daniells lives in Heath Road in Soberton Heath and turns left on to the A32 to travel to work each day.

Last year he felt compelled to write to Hampshire County Council a number of times after a series of near misses.

He said: "I would say I have at least two near misses a month at that particular junction.

"I put HCC on notice last August of the potential for a fatal accident. Unfortunately the accident occurred as I predicted.

"Every day I pull out of that junction and see flowers by the roadside. I would like these people to go there and see those for themselves. I believe the motorbike accident should not have happened and had they been more helpful, it may not have.

"I am doing this for the sake of the chap that died at Christmas. I am determined that no one else should be killed when it could so easily be prevented."

His concerns surround the danger of turning left out of Heath Road to travel south on the A32 near the Roebuck Inn because of a lack of visibility at the junction.

Chris Mills, 31, was killed when the motorbike he was riding struck a car at the Heath Road junction of the road in December.

And 18-year-old motorist Vicky Waters was killed at the nearby Bishop's Wood Road junction when her car was in collision with a coach earlier this month.

Since the fatal motorbike smash some posts and signage have been put in place, but Mr Daniells has called for further warnings of the side road and other safety measures.

A Hampshire County Council spokesman commented: "We work with the police under the casualty reduction partnership and study information in the case of fatal accidents.

"This is to see if there are any patterns or aspects of the highway that should be investigated or measures to prevent similar accidents happening again and that will certainly be the case here."
