STAFF and children at Warsash Pre-School and Nursery have a reason to smile after inspectors praised its high standards.

It was the first Ofsted inspection for the nursery class that caters for children aged from 18 months to three years.

Head of the nursery Bee Bevis said she was delighted with the report that said her group provided good quality full-day care for children.

She said: "The report shows all the hard work staff put into the nursery. We are delighted with the results."

Inspectors found activities during the day sessions that cater for up to 24 children at a time were well organised.

There are currently 46 children on role at the nursery that is part of the Asquith Court Nurseries Company.

They also praised nursery staff for working well together.

However, during their one-day visit in February inspectors recommended the nursery buy more toys to reflect children's different ethnic backgrounds.

And they said snacks given out to children were not of high nutritional value.

But Mrs Bevis pointed out inspectors came on a day when biscuits were handed out when the nursery also distributes fruit instead on alternate days.
