Tichborne Park cricket Club held its annual dinner and dance last week at the Arlebury Park Sports and Social Club, Alresford, with 70 members and guests in attendance.

After the meal, Hampshire all-rounder Shaun Udal held an interesting 'question and answer' session which included some humorous anecdotes.

However, he started off by congratulating the club on a very successful 2003 season, during which they were runners-up in HCL County 1 and the Alton Indoor League. The club were winners of the W&DCCA Evening League, Hampshire Chronicle Cup, Cross Solent Sunday League and Cheriton Sixes.

Congratulations were passed on to Will 'Bomber' Allam on his selection to play for the Hampshire Academy Under 19 side.

Shaun then auctioned a package comprising the shirt John Crawley wore in the last one-day match (he assured the meeting it had been washed!) signed by all the Hampshire players. He pledged to arrange for it to be personalised to the winner by Shane Warne, with four tickets to any Sunday one-day match at the Rose Bowl thrown in.

The 2003 awards Marty McVeigh (1st XI batting), John Cook (1st XI bowling), Trevor Booker (2nd XI batting), Dougie Butler (2nd XI bowling), Derek Bone (3rd XI batting), Stuart Primmer (3rd XI bowling).

Kate Matthews (Chamberlain Cup - Services to the club), Gary Ingram (Frank Primmer Cup - Young player of the year), Mark Ingram (Loudon Cup - Most promising young player), Nathan Hobbs (Neil Kimber Award - Most improved 3rd XI player).

Surprise presentations were made to two members who retired from key posts, after 13 years service, at last year's annual meeting - Neville Cheyney (chairman) and David Rushen (secretary).

This was followed by a light hearted presentation ceremony, hosted by Trevor Ingram, in which several players were given appropriate awards for 'not so outstanding' reasons! The evening was rounded off with a disco.

The club currently runs three senior sides, all playing league cricket, and four colts sides at age groups U9, U11, U13 and U15. Anyone interested in joining please contact Andy Joyce on 01962 734316.
