INSPIRATIONAL business consultant Chris Moon MBE - who lost his right arm and leg clearing mines for the UN - is planning to walk the length of Britain for charity.

Chris, who is the new non-executive director of Andover-based Armchair Answercall, aims to complete the 1,284 mile route by walking the distance of two marathons a day - 52 miles.

The 41-year-old from Basingstoke has even decided to make a detour through London in his attempt to raise £1 million for the Leonard Cheshire charity, which helps disabled people reach their goals.

He said: "I thought it was important to go to London so I have added another 300 miles by doing that."

Chris received his horrific injuries while clearing landmines in Mozambique in 1995 - but he has not let that get in his way.

Since then he has run the London marathon and the gruelling 150-mile Great Sahara Run. He has also led a party up Kilimanjaro. He said he was taking on the 'One man, one foot, one thousand miles' challenge for the Leonard Cheshire charity because 'no-one goes further to support disabled people'. Chris is one of the few westerners kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia to survive.

He managed to not only negotiate his own freedom but also persuaded his captives to release two of his colleagues. For him the John O'Groats to Land's End walk - which he starts on 5 June and hopes to complete in just 25 days - is all about showing people they can achieve amazing things against the odds.
