NOT many inventors have Lynyrd Skynyrd rock music blasting out of their speakers for "research".

But Allan Hendry is not a conventional inventor.

While most 12-year-old boys are playing with Meccano sets, at that age he was building complex hi-fi speakers.

Six years ago Allan, now 60, perfected his most advanced design, the MonoPulse speakers.

Costing hundreds of pounds each, the speakers have been widely praised for their realistic, crystal-clear quality.

The MonoPulse creation is very much a family enterprise, with Allan's student sons James, 22, and Jonny, 21, assisting.

The bespoke speakers are so powerful that Allan, from Brockenhurst in the New Forest, refused to reveal the identity of a famous opera singer customer, who did not want his wife to discover his rather loud purchase.
