Eastleigh new boy James Stokoe fired his side back into sixth place in Dr Martens Eastern Division at the Sparshatts Stadium last night.

The 18-year-old striker, recently released by AFC Bournemouth, claimed both goals in the 2-0 defeat of Clive Walker's Chatham Town - and so nearly completed a hat-trick.

According to Eastleigh manager Paul Doswell, "dire" was only suitable adjective to describe a non-descript first half, but all that changed after the break as Stokoe, pictured above, got to work.

Paul Sales made the first goal, flicking on Christer Warren's through ball for Stokoe to stroke the ball past the keeper with a maturity beyond his years.

Sales should have made it two, but the East-ern Division's leading marksman somehow scooped the ball over an empty net from two yards having initially headed against the bar.

Stokoe also rattled the woodwork with a lob but he scored again when the keeper parried Sales's shot on the turn and he pounced on the rebound.

Still the young striker was hungry for more and he fizzed a shot just past the post in the closing minute.

Acknowledging Stokoe's contribution, Doswell said: "We've been looking for a fourth striker all season and it looks like we've found one now."
