COLOURFUL characters from children's books came to life at Southampton's Fairisle Infant and Nursery School as part of their book week.
Pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite story characters to mark the finale of the popular event. Youngsters had visits from storytellers and tried their hand at a spot of acting, with lively renditions of stories with environmental themes.
Pupils also had a visit from renowned children's author and illustrator Joanna Troughton and had a go at producing their own books to read to their parents.
Head teacher Susanne Ottens said: "We hope to increase the children's love of reading, widen their experience of books and engage their imagination."
