CHRISTMAS bazaar: Outside it was wet and dreary with sodden leaves everywhere, but inside the Memorial Hall on Saturday there was a really festive feel for the annual Christmas bazaar.

The gift stall was particularly bright, with red and white presents.

The queue for the tombola was enormous - and what a choice of prizes were on offer.

The cakes and produce looked delicious. The books were enticingly set out. There was a truly impressive choice of cards. Terrific hampers, whisky and champagne were raffled.

On the stage, small faces were being painted. We had a tiger, a pink cat, a blue cat and a very scary skeleton, while the children's lucky dip was never short of customers.

The guess-the-weight-of- the-cake competition featured another Celia Lunn masterpiece. It really was superb - 7lb 7oz of Father Christmas taking life easy, won by Mo Kimbell, who ran the card stall.

Another treasured picture from the bazaar - Susie Deane at the very end, happily bespangled with wood shavings from the lucky dip tub.

Bill Thompson played a great variety of requests on the accordion, providing a lively atmosphere.
